The Washington Literacy Center (WLC) is a non-profit adult literacy organization that removes the barrier of low-literacy by teaching basic skills, fluency, and comprehension – to adults who read below a fifth-grade level and often have undiagnosed learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. We have evolved to meet the demands of the 21st century by teaching math for everyday use, digital literacy, workforce and occupational literacy, and certification courses. We prepare our students for employment, better jobs, continued education and real opportunities.
Our mission is to raise the literacy level of adults in Washington, D.C., so they may function on the job, in the family, and in society.
