Workforce Development Program at WLC
In September, the Washington Literacy Center will launch a pilot program in conjunction with the Department of Employment Services focused on providing education and employment opportunities for youth ages 18-25. The goal of the program is to utilize specialized and innovative learning methods to address deficiencies and help move youth along the employment and continued education track. “I’m excited about this new initiative that is bridging the gap between government and our non-profit community to address the root causes of unemployment in our city”, said Markus Batchelor, Ward 8 Representative on the DC State Board of Education and member of the Washington Literacy Center Advisory Council. “Literacy is an important and far-too- often overlooked issue facing communities east of the Anacostia River and a problem WLC has been combating for years. I am confident that their partnership with DOES will turn this barrier into the bridge our young people desperately need and deserve.” If you know of youth between the ages of 18 and 25, please have them contact the Washington Literacy Center.
