WLC in the News: Dr. Barr to speak at WATESOL Virtual Conference
WLC's own Dr. Robin Barr is an invited speaker at the Washington Area TESOL Association 2021 Virtual Conference, Saturday, October 16. The title of her talk is: "The Invisible Student: Identifying and Accommodating the Low-Literacy Learner."
The Invisible Student: Identifying and Accommodating the Low-Literacy Learner:Most beginning English classes rely on textbooks, and assume that students can read them without much preparation. But there are many students who face barriers to reading English, whether because of learning differences, pronunciation problems, or interrupted education. We will examine several examples of students with reading problems and discuss what to do about each type.
Dr. Robin C. Barr has been teaching reading to adult English speakers with dyslexia and to English language learners with reading problems at the Washington Literacy Center for 8 years She has been Linguist-in-Residence at American University for 25 years.
